Bodega Frontos, Granadilla de Abona, Tenerife, Spain

Bodega Frontos' Los Frontones vineyard is among the highest in Europe at 1650 meters above sea level.

In 1949 D. Manuel Luengo from a wine making family in Castilla Y Leon moved to Granadilla de Abona in Tenerife to work as a Recorder of Deeds. Soon after, he started to acquire land, plant vines and make wine in a primitive cellar. Between 1998 and 2003 the vineyards were restructured, indigenous varietals were replanted and the new Frontos winery was built.

The Los Frontones vineyard, situated well above the cloud layer, allows organic viticulture, free of botrytis, which, together with the stony and well drained soil results in a unique terroir. No added fertilizers. Plant protection: Sulphur 2-3 times/year. Weed control: Mechanical. Harvest: Manual, mid September. Organic certification.

Listan Blanco de Canarias is the local variety of the Palomino grape, which in mainland Spain is used for sherry production. However, the winds from the sea and the volcanic soil in Los Frontones has made a super interesting wine, far from the bland Palomino wines you may encounter elsewhere.
